Other common names: Virginia Creeper, Engelmanns Ivy, five-finger
Mature Height: a deciduous vine with tendrils whose branchlets end in suction cup holdfasts. Virginia Creeper doesnt need any support and has a fast growth rate that can reach up to 30' to 50' tall.
Soil/Climate: eastern north America, Although tolerant of shade, the vines likes full sun to part shade. Grow it in a well-drained soil.
Notes: After it gets established, Virginia Creeper can grow 6-10 per year. Don't allow Virginia creeper to grow on specimen trees. Instead, grow it on garden arbors or on fences. Can be mistaken for poison ivy.
Wildlife: The blue or black berries are very important as fall and winter food for songbirds, numerous other birds, including all game species. Also eaten by mice, chipmunks and skunks. Foliage and twigs browsed by white-tailed deer.
