Soil / Climate: The ninebark shrubs are very hardy plants. They can handle full sun or shade. Often used on river-banks.

Notes: Branches out significantly. Ninebarks are known as a four season shrub. They produce white flowers May to June, they have medium green coloring in the summer, their leaves change to a vibrant color in the fall with fruit ripening in September to October, and the unique exfoliating bark is attractive in the winter months. Ninebarks are drought tolerant and long lived. They are used in a shrub border because of their dense foliage.

Wildlife: Pods are a valuable winter wildlife food. Foliage can withstand intense deer browsing.

I have ordered these plants from Coldstream years in a row, for a total of 50 plants to create a hedge. They arrived safely packed and in great condition. Will definitely get plans from Coldtream again.

It is very un-common to find the "common" green-leafed ninebark. I lived for years in a place where they grew in the wild and I have to say I find them one of the prettiest native flowering plants we have. The flower clumps are beautiful in spring, white with pink anthers, the leaves are a spritely green with a beautiful design, that color very late in fall with colors that are variable terrific shades of reds, salmons, yellows and additionally have large clumps of seedpods that are of similar colors. I have some planted and this fall the leaves stayed in fall color and and never fell off. (zone 6b) They are tall and their root systems are I think I remember, about 10" deep and will hold back the edge of any water body. I am going to be ordering more to hold back my eroding creek sides. Cold Stream needs to redo their photos, though, because the ones they have on this website do not even come close to doing justice to these beautiful bushes. In fact if I hadn't known about them before I wouldn't have given this plant a second look after seeing the photos.

Beautiful hard to find native shrub in cultivation. All bare roots plants arrived in excellent condition. Once stepped up, we had 100% viability. Should be exceptional in the landscape once mature. More on the order for next year. Thank you, CSF!
