They produce white flowers May to June, they have medium green coloring in the summer, their leaves change to a vibrant color in the fall with fruit ripening in September to October, and the unique exfoliating bark is attractive in the winter months. Ninebarks are drought tolerant and long lived. They are used in a shrub border because of their dense foliage.
